I’m Off the Waitlist! Ipsy Glam Bag Plus – April 2019

I am so excited to share this with you guys! I have been waiting months to get off the waitlist for the Ipsy Glam Bag Plus and now a million people and myself can finally show you what’s in the box!

Let’s dive in!

I forgot to take a picture of the box BUT there it is with my lovely face

Here we have a lovely fold out booklet which has a ton of info on the products which I absolutely adore.

First Item: Paris Hilton Skincare Pro DNA Dual Action Cleansing Gel – $29

This cleansing gel is infused with exfoliating caviar lime and pineapple-derived enzymes to brighten skin, cucumber to depute, and white tea extract to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and help repair sun damage.

Did y’all know Paris Hilton was still around? I didn’t. I am glad to see this lovely looking bottle in my box though! The size is so great and I love getting skincare anything in a box. This item alone meets the price you pay for the box so that is a great start. I have a few face washes open right now so I am not going to tell you how this is yet – keep an eye out for the review in a Social Saturday update!

Second Item: Goldfadden MD Bright Eyes – $55

This eye cream gets straight to the root of your under-eye issues (because there’s only so much concealer can hide). Formulated with rice bran extract, soy peptide, organic red tea and arnica, it helps reduce the appearance of dark circles, puffiness and fine lines.

I am loving the value and items in this box so far! Skincare and eye care?!?! My freaking dream come true. Plus, this is catering to those pesky dark circles which always stay under my eyes. Again, I have a few eye creams I am trying out but I will update as soon as I can. I am so so so excited though!

Third Item: Laura Sanchez Moods Eyeshadow and Highlighter Palette – $35

This all-in-one palette is loaded with matte and metallic shades of cheek and eye colors – an option of any mood you’re in.

I am absolutely in love with this palette! It has some colors that are definitely outside of my comfort zone but they are gorgeous! You should check out my video to see the swatches because this picture does not give it justice. They blend so beautifully and are pigmented just enough to not be too crazy. I am shocked this is such an affordable palette!

Fourth Item: Benefit Cosmetics High Brow Eyebrow Highlighter – $22

When your brows need a lift, look no further than this creamy highlighter brow pencil. The matte, linen-pink shade pops on and accentuates your arches for brighter, lifted, younger-looking eyes.

I wasn’t expecting this to be a pencil for some reason. It is very creamy though.

This honestly isn’t something that I would use on my eyebrow highlight BUT I do think it will be great on the waterline. I know that adding white to the waterline is beaming an “in” thing and since I am so hip and cool, I will definitely be doing that with this pencil. Plus, the cap for this is just stunning!

Fifth Item:ITCosmeticsHeavenly Skin Skin-Smoothing Complexion Brush – $48

You don’t need an entire drawer of makeup brushes when you have one that does it all. Not only does this brush give makeup products an airbrushed finish, blurring away the appearance of fine lines and pores, it also applies skincare like a dream.

Holy hell this is an expensive brush. It is so expensive that I feel like I wanted to use it to apply my expensive skincare products……but I actually didn’t enjoy it. So. In a future update, I will let y’all know if this actually has any blurring abilities with makeup because it sure as hell better with that price. Hell, it better paint a whole new damn face as far as I am concerned.

Final Thoughts

So here is the final lineup! The final value came out to be $189 which is amazing since they say the value is guaranteed to be at least $120 (if I’m correct). I am so so so so happy with this box and I love each and every product. If it keeps being like this, I will probably end up cutting out BoxyCharm and only having this one next year!!

As always, thank y’all so so much for reading! Remember I have an active giveaway on both my Youtube and Instagram so check those out!

The Difference of $11 in Beauty Boxes

As per usual, my boxes are late so I’ve decided to do comparisons so you guys can see what a $11 difference can be in a beauty subscription box. Really, if you want to see what $11 can get you, keep reading this post and also refer back to my Allure vs Ipsy post where both subscriptions cost about $10.

This will be the comparison of Boxycharm ($21) and Play! by Sephora ($10). I thought it would be interesting to contrast the size, value, and quantity of the two boxes.

Let’s dive in!

The theme for Feb 2019 is “After Glow” and it looks like all these products would help you get your glow on. I’m really excited just by looking at the packaging for these products – I’m a sucker for beautiful packaging!

First Item!

First Item: Sol de Janeiro Coco Cabana Cream – $20.00

I’m shocked this is so expensive for so little! This lotion is really nice BUT this scent reminds me of buttered popcorn…….not that I have anything against that but I’d rather smell like something other than a movie theater. I really love the formula and it did maintain the scent throughout the day so if it was a different fragrance, then I’d be head over heels for it. I might check out what else they have scent wise.

Second Item: Pretty Vulgar Bronzer – $32.00

The formula for this is super smooth! This isn’t really dark enough for what I typically use as a bronzer but I may be able to play around with it and make it work. The packaging is everything!!! I love the contrast between the fold and the bronze powder. I want to keep it mostly for that reason.

Update: I did manage to build it up and make it more of the type color that I aim for. I actually really like this bronzer!

Third Item:┬áNudeStix Magnetic Luminous Eye Color – $24.00

Holy crap this is expensive and holy crap IL LOVE IT. This color is very much in my wheelhouse of colors. I can see myself using this as an eye shadow or an eyeliner. But dang, if I ever wanted to buy this again, it’s a pretty penny!

Fourth Item: Touch in Sol No Poreblem Primer – $18.00

I was super excited to see this in the box! My pores can be massive and hideous so I’m always looking for something to blur that on my face. The texture was amazing and seemed to do a pretty great job. I’ll add a picture with a face of makeup and let y’all decide!

Fifth Item: Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara – $24.00

I’ve heard a lot about this mascara being like a ‘holy grail’ product and I was super excited to try it. My lashes are short and thin and hideous so mascara is a HUGE deal for my face. This mascara was nice. It added length and didn’t clump. It wasn’t the best mascara I’ve used but I’ll definitely use it until it’s gone.

Here is a swatch of the bronzer (top) and eyeshadow stick (bottom). I LOVE THE SHIMMER!!!

So, this is a fast look I put on to show the primer, eyeshadow stick, bronzer, and mascara in action. Typically, I like a more defined bronzer but I don’t mind this for a more natural look. I also think the mascara looks nice enough. The primer is OK but I can still see my large pores. The real MVP here is that eyeshadow stick. I used it as more of an eyeliner but I dig it regardless.

So, here is the final lineup for the Feb 2019 Boxycharm. Overall, this is a really great box of products I will use often, if not every day. I especially love the shimmer eyeshadow stick and can see getting a lot of use out of that. The thing I love most about Boxycharm is that they have full sized items. This is great if you fall in love with something so you don’t have to run out and buy another thing on top of your subscription. In general, Boxycharm doesn’t ever let me down and exposes me to great, high-quality items.

The total value of this came out to be: $118.00. I feel like that’s awesome compared to what you pay ($21.00)

Next, let’s see the Play! by Sephora in action.

As you can see, my poor box had a rough time in the mail. I have mixed feelings about the inner packaging because I think the red is a nice contrast to the black and white striped box BUT when would I ever use this plastic bag again? Never. So. That’s wasted right there.

Let’s open it up.

The info sheet is MASSIVE. I actually really think it’s pointless and they could have put the cost of the packaging and color printing into maybe another sample or something. I do like that Sephora gives you 50 extra points to add to a purchase but it expires within a month and y’all, I start to feel the pressure to make sure I get my 50 points. Good marketing strategy Sephora. Well played. Other than the product info, I really feel like the whole backside is a waste of info. They didn’t even include most of the things they are saying you should indulge in (clay mask, face exfoliant, hair treatment) so I’m not sure why that’s their suggestions for the month. Maybe I’m being over critical but I’d imagine they’d want to push the products they are letting you sample, but that’s just my opinion.

Inside we get 6 samples. That’s one more than Ipsy but the sizes seem much smaller than what you get in Ipsy. If you wanted a little more variety – aka one more item to try out – this might be your best bet.

First Item: Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Eye Masks (1 pair)

I don’t really like getting anything for baggage under my eyes. What I really need is something for dark circles! I’ll save this for a day when I notice any puffiness under my eyes, but really this is a toss away.

Second Item: Marc Jacobs Daisy Perfume Sample

This actually smells really nice but I feel like it has been around for a while. The size is much smaller than what came in the Ipsy as far as perfume samples goes, but I do like that I get to try this scent out. I think there is probably enough in here to try out a couple of times.

Third Item: Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick Sample in Maple

This is the single most adorable bullet lipstick I have ever seen. Other than that, the color seems a little dark for what I normally use and it’s so small that I’ll probably lose it BUT the formula is super smooth. I’ve seen where this has been in quite a few subscription boxes so who knows, maybe I’ll love it.

Fourth Item: Clinique Moisture Surge Lotion Sample

This lotion. I’m literally in love. I wish the sample was SO much bigger but a little bit of this really goes a long way. The texture is silly and amazing against my skin. I’ve been using it at night and it really makes my skin feel so hydrated and luxurious in the morning. Im very much considering buying a full size because I love it that much!

Fifth Item: Clinique Quickliner for Eyes

I’m never too thrilled about getting eyeliner. Honestly, I hate taking the time to do eyeliner and if I do, I usually use brown or gold. Black just makes my eyes look crazy. The one plus side is that this eyeliner goes on SUPER smooth. I much prefer a pencil like this over liquid eyeliner.

Sixth Item: Fresh Vitamin Nectar Face Cream

The smell of this is so citrus-y and bright. I love to put this on my face in the morning like a big drink of OJ to start the day off. It has a very nice texture and makes my skin feel moisturized. The little pot is adorable as well but they are killing me with these small ass samples.

Here is the swatches of the lipstick (top) and the eyeliner (bottom). The pigment is really nice in both and each has a smooth texture. I am really pleased with both selections, even though I don’t typically go for super, deep red lipstick or black eyeliner. These will be nice for when I feel in the mood to do something different, even if the size is SUPER small for the lipstick.

So as you can see an $11 difference here really gets you some amazing value. I can’t say I’m too thrilled with the Sephora box as I only really liked two products which were SO SMALL. If I am going to get samples, I would much prefer Allure or Ipsy or for just skin care, BeautyFIX.

That being said, I am going to cancel the Sephora subscription for the upcoming month because nothing really wowed me. Now Boxycharm on the other hand really was the MVP here. Yes, you pay more but they were all products I’d use pretty regularly. I love the full sized products and I think that’s worth the price difference.

What do you guys think? Do you think the value in Sephora is there for the variety?

Coming up, I have some new subscriptions, some big boxes, and a couple other item reviews!

Ulta Beauty Makeup Review: 3 Palettes and Lacquered Lids

So lately I’ve been waiting for my subscription boxes to get all the way to Alaska (eye roll) and I’ve decided that I needed some new eyeshadow palettes. Normally, I’d go to the well known brands I’ve come to love BUT I thought I’d mix it up and just go with Ulta’s palettes and see what was up. I saw there was a sale of buying two Ulta items and getting two free. That’s a bargain, right?!

You guys. I messed up.

Normally I have good success ordering online. I read the reviews and I try a lot of different stuff, so I’ve been around the online purchasing block a few times. This was a game changer. I ordered three palettes and a set of eyeshadow glosses. I was 1 for 4. That’s awful. Let’s get into the palettes.

The palette is pretty standard. It has nice magnetic close and decent sized eyeshadow pans. Top row is shimmery and bottom row is matte. I tried my very best to capture the true colors of the individual eyeshadows, but I hope you can tell that the shimmery ones barely have any shimmer. I wasn’t looking for ground up diamond fairy dust here. I was looking for something with a little more glam than a matte. That was my first disappoinment. Let me go ahead and swatch these for y’all so you can see:

I think my niece’s makeup has more pigment and glam than this. I could cry.

Y’all. I tried concealer to prime. I tried some Mac Fix+. It would take SO much product to build the type of color or shimmer I’m looking for. They are splotchy and streaky – I really had you rub my finger in them to get this much color to even show. It’s not even worth trying to put on my face. I hate them.

On to the eyeshadow glosses.

I actually really enjoyed these. The formula is really creamy and super blendable. It’s easy to put too much product on since it’s very pigmented and can be used by itself. When I purchased them, I thought it was going to be a little more sheer which would enhance my base eyeshadow color but this is definitely a standalone product. Here’s some swatches:

The colors are really nice and neutral. They are also jam packed with a metallic sheen which I love! I’m excited to put a look together with these and see what I can create. This is the only thing I was happy with in my purchase.

So what do you guys think? I feel like there must be a way to salvage this. I know $20 is a good price but dang I could buy better makeup for less at a lot of stores. Hopefully, my subscription boxes will be better investments!
