Why Is This So Expensive?! Box of Style Summer 2019

Today we are diving in to the Box of Style by Rachel Zoe (I have a $15 off coupon here). This is a seasonal box that promises over $400 with in products. They range from jewelry to fashion to skincare products.

I have such mixed feelings about this box – there are amazing skincare products for sure, but I feel like some of the retail prices are freaking insane. It is $99 per quarter which makes it my most expensive seasonal box by far. If you would like to watch my unboxing, check it out below!

Let’s dive in!

This picture doesn’t really do this box justice, but it is the most beautiful light pink, textured box with light golden lettering.

Inside, we see the fabulous Rachel Zoe in all her fashion glory……and an expensive ass towel.

Summer is all about travel, friends, and relaxing outdoors. Style that translates to effortless essentials can be worn with everything in your wardrobe. From a versatile crochet bag to on-trend Lucite earrings, every item in this edition is intended to make you feel glamorous and carefree.

Rachel Zoe

Opening it up, this is the lineup of the products. I do get let down with the quantity of products – I am one of those people who prefers to get more items. In total, there are 5 items in my $99 box.

On to the products.

Item One: Missoni Home Rufus Terry Beach Towel – $220

My love for Missoni runs deep. I never have a pool party without draping every piece of outdoor furniture with my extensive collection of Missoni Home towels. Its a dream come true to be able to share this obsession with you.

I have lost my damn mind when I saw the retail value on this towel. I’m sorry but who TF spends $220 on a towel. Like I said in my video, I can run my happy ass down to Target and buy the MOST EXPENSIVE towel there for $50. Sure, it’s not designer but for the love of all that is good in the world, it is a freaking beach towel. That being said, I think it’s gorgeous. It feels nice enough but probably not $220 worth nice. I will get a lot of use from it but I would never ever ever ever pay that kind of money.

Item Two: Machete Kate Hoops – $44

Summer calls for playful earrings. This of-the-moment lucite style comes in a choice of opal or tortoise and looks great with everything from a caftan to jeans and a tee.

I like these earrings a lot! While my style is more studs or the type that run up the side of your ear, I think these are great quality earrings that can go with a lot of my clothing. I don’t wear a lot of fancy clothing so the fact I can pair these with jeans and a tee means I can wear them all the time!

Item Three: Benefit Cosmetics 24-HR Brow Setter Shaping & Setting Gel – $24

I was so nervous about having something like this being included in the box. I get nervous about my eyebrows being too crunchy or stiff looking BUT I was in shock that these made my eyebrows look freaking fantastic. They helped my brows stay in place without looking too stuck in place. I think this is a great product that will be in my everyday use – I don’t have the time to be worrying about my eyebrows being all over the place. Plus, there are so many great reviews out there about this brand and this product so that makes it feel like a real treat to get in this box!

Item Four: Glo Skin Beauty Oil Free Moisturizer SPF 40+ – $38

SPF is a must year round, but particularly during the summer. This hydrating moisturizer is oil free, lightweight and boasts protection of SPF 40.

As bad as it is to admit it, I really never worry about SPF. I used to tan a lot………like every day……and caring about SPF was never something I worried about since I wanted to be tan at any cost. As I have gotten older, I have stopped tanning and have started worrying more about what the sun is doing to my skin. I don’t want to be 50 looking 100. I think this will be a great addition to my skincare routine although I have seen a lot of products with SPF in them that I already have in my daily routine. I am happy this was included in the summer box as the sun has definitely come out in full force now!

Item Five: Danielle Nicole Macrame Handbag – $100

Crochet is a huge trend for summer. The wooden handles on this lined style are beyond chic and we added a cross-body strap for versatility.

This bag is freaking gorgeous and I am so excited that this is included in this box. At first, I was bummed out thinking that this was just a handbag but thankfully there is the cross-body strap. With the strap, it makes it such a beautiful, wearable bag for me. It has quickly become y favorite bag in my collection and I feel like I might buy more from this collection if they have more of this style!

This is the final lineup of the box! The total value calculated for the box comes to $426 which is over the promised value of the box. I feel a little cheated because of that stupid (beautiful) towel. Like, you take away from the box when you include an item that has such high retail value. The crochet/macrame bag makes up for my disappointment with the towel because I am already using it so so much! I love the earrings and they are definitely going to be a fun addition to my collection. The eyebrow setting product was surprisingly pleasant and I am excited to use the SPF. Overall, I feel like this is a good box but I just cant justify the price tag on the box (or the towel) because I could have picked these items up for cheaper elsewhere.

What do you guys think? Is it worth the $99 price tag every 3 months? Let me know what you think!

Thanks for reading (as always) and I have some exciting boxes coming up! Til next time!

Box of Style – Spring 2019 AND A Special Announcement For My Blog

I have to admit I am not too thrilled to open this box….keep in mind that this cost $99.99 every season so I should be jumping up and down with joy whenever this arrives……but I have seen some spoilers and I am not jumping up and down at all.

This is already significantly smaller than the Select Edition I got previously so I am already worried about that.

Also, I have a little announcement if you want to check it out! Please subscribe to my YouTube channel so y’all can follow everything in the future.

Let’s open it up!

As an annual subscriber, I got a little extra gift with my box this season…that being said, I am shocked at how small the ACTUAL box is because the stuff outside of the box is extra.

On to the products.

Here is a little note from Rachel Zoe about the extra that comes from being an annual subscriber – an Amazon Echo Look. I can’t say I am super thrilled about this because I am not really the type to take full length pics BUT it might be fun to take cute pics of me holding my little man or it might make it easier to take little family pictures. Who knows.

The outer box is super nice Amazon packing and y’all know I am a sucker for good packaging!

So, here it is in the box. I am not going to unbox it yet because I am still trying to decide if I want it or not.

Let’s open up the small black package that is an add-on item I purchased.

I love the simplicity of the black tissue paper wrapping. For some reason, it makes me feel like it’s super luxe like shopping at a high end store. I guess for $99.99 that should be expected.

So this is the add-on I purchased for I think like $40 and it normally retails for $65. I honestly can’t remember why I purchased it – maybe it’s because I have tried this brand’s exfoliator and liked it. Who knows. But, this product is

Ok, on to the actual box of products everyone will receive.

So, like I said before, this is a much smaller box than I was anticipating BUT it is so pretty! There is nothing better than white and gold in my opinion.

When you open it up, you get this lovely greeting as well as the info booklet.

Why can’t I be this stylish? Maybe it’s the spit up and mom bun that I always rock.

Lord, this box is so EMPTY!! I mean I paid $100 for this thing. This should be filled from the windows to the walls.

First Item: Tribe Alive Leather Clutch, Exclusive – $78

A sleek black leather pouch is ideal for stashing essentials. I keep mine inside my work bag and then use it as a clutch for appointments, lunches or meetings.

It’s a pretty plain clutch. There is no lining or anything and isn’t overly large or small. It’s just kind of there. I think the simplicity is nice though and I will probably use this at an upcoming wedding. I hate to be that person, but this feels like cheap vegan leather that I hate. The gold accents are pretty but are just kind of meh. Maybe I’m being too critical but I just don’t think it’s anything special. I want something that wows me….this isn’t it…even though I will get use out of it.

Second Item: Skin Gym, Rose Quartz Gua Sha – $32

One step further than a jade roller. this massage tool boosts circulation and fits into your makeup bag. I keep mine on hand for long flights and midday pick-me-ups. It works wonders.

So in the Select Edition, there was a jade roller which was cool. I don’t mind getting a trendy facial tool but two seasons in a row? I feel like there could have been a little something else in here. I like this one more than the jade roller though. This is easy to grip, covers more surface area, and is nice after I put on a facial cream or serum. I guess I don’t mind that this is in the box since this seems more practical than the jade roller, but if they do this again for a third month I might lose it.

Third Item: Edible Beauty, Gold Rush Eye Balm – $65

I can never have too many eye creams, and this is a new favorite I apply morning and night. I love the decadent all-natural ingredients. The gold leaf is a dream come true!

I was actually the most excited about this. I definitely agree with Rachel Zoe that you can never have too many eye creams…especially if you look like you have been fighting sleep since you were born. I don’t know what it is about my face that makes me have these awful dark circles but Lord, I need help.

This is actually a really lovely product. It’s thicker than the other eye cream I am currently using which I appreciate…and there are gold leaf flakes. I mean it doesn’t take much to make me happy, but throw some gold in anything and I feel like a boujee boss bitch. I don’t even care if this never works because I get to spread gold under my eyes and go about myself business. That’s a boss move.

Fourth Item: Michelle Campbell Gold Talon Bracelet Set, Exclusive – $215

Dainty gold bangles can be worn solo or as a pair for an easy daytime look. For evening, layer with other pieces for a luxe take – I always mix metals for extra drama!

These were surprisingly more thin than I was anticipating. They are beautiful no doubt, but dang they are dainty. I feel like they photograph more chunky than they actually are. I love them nonetheless….but can y’all actually imagine paying over $200 for these? I mean they must be proud of their product because I am pretty sure I saw something similar at Target for less than $20.

Let me go ahead and show you them on though!

They are very pretty – I can give them that. I also think they will pair very nicely with other jewelry and even the watch from the last box I got. I like that you can wear them in different ways since they are an open bangle with detailed ends.

Fifth Item: Chan Luu Silk Scarf, Exclusive – $125

Nothing provides more styling options than a printed silk scarf. Tie it around your neck, head, waist, wrist or purse for an instant pop of color – and of course glamour.

I was surprised at how thin/see through this scarf was. It is a nice, large size which is nice and versatile. It is also a lot less silky than I was expecting…I have to say the vegan silk scarf (whatever that is) from Causebox Spring 2019 was a lot more of the texture that I think of when I imagine silk. It’s still a nice product but I would never in my life pay $125 for this.

I have no idea how the hell to style this

So there it is! Everything was kind of meh to me and really overpriced. The total adds up to $515 which is an amazing value if you are into these products and think the prices are actually reflective of the quality.

Below are some of the promo codes they have included if you wanted to order anything from the brands in this box. Feel free to use them!

If you like this box’s value for the price and would like to try out this box and get $15 off, feel free to use my referral link. This will make your first box $85 for at least $400 of products.

Rachel Zoe Box of Style – Select Edition

Well, I don’t think I will be getting my Ipsy February bag any time soon, so let me go ahead and review this lovely box I received in the mail today……the Box of Style! As I mentioned before, I signed up for this on February 3rd on a whim. I saw the bag that they advertised and I NEEDED IT! Can y’all believe it made it all the way to Alaska in 6 days? Let me go ahead and point the 3rd fell on a Sunday so I am even more impressed. The only thing I was a little surprised about was the fact I didn’t get any information about the fact it had shipped…..but then again Ipsy said it shipped out January 3rd and I have yet to get it (insert annoyed, entitled face here).

A little synopsis about this box (but let me remind you I found a promo code to get $25 off):

Every season, Rachel selects 5 style finds valued at over $400 for $99.99.

Rachel Zoe – Box of Style

Let’s go ahead and dive in!!!!

This is how the packaging was inside a very large brown box. Can I just start off by saying this is stunning! I am OBSESSED with the beautiful shimmering rose gold box – it already feels luxurious. I feel like this packaging alone makes me happy to have spent $75! I’m crazy. This shows the box is a decent size – smaller than other subscription boxes I have received but then again this gorgeous bag was on the outside. Also, the bag held the box very well and still had tons of space. I might live out of this bag.

You can instantly elevate any outfit with the right accessories, so for this Box of Style: Select Edition I wanted to provide you with the ultimate curation of timeless staples. Wear them together or alone for instant polish all year round.

When opening the box, I am greeted by a lovely little print on the inside flap which reminds me I am gorgeous and I deserve to open this beautiful rose gold tissue paper (where can I buy this?!?!).

Do you guys feel the luxury?

There is also a typical booklet that describes the items and gives prices for each. The pages of this booklet are soft and makes it feel like they put some good money into producing these…….another way to show my money was well spent.

Ok, on to the first item – the beautiful bag which was the reason I signed up for this box. I feel like I would pay $99 just for this bag.

Every woman needs a polished, neutral purse that pairs with everything in her closet. I’ve selected this beautiful pale pink vegan leather tote you can wear to work, for travel or while running errands.

This. Bag. You guys. Is it not just so beautiful? This is a Jules Kae vegan leather tote exclusive to the Rachel Zoe Box of Style. It feels like genuine leather. There is no lining for the bag, but I am ok with that since I love the simplicity of it. I feel like I could use this bag to look elegant and sophisticated anywhere I go, but I could also easily use this to carry around my laptop on a plane or to work. I love the fact there are the braided handles or the cross-body strap. A bag that gives me options and looks like a million dollars is a bag I need in my life! The retail value on this bag is listed as $150. So, if we go by this, you have already done really well on getting an item that costs more than the box.

On to the actual box!

Although this box isn’t brimming with goods, I can already tell these are really high end products – and full size beauty products! Let’s start with the big white box and go from there.

An elegant watch is always in style, and this rose-gold version features a stunning woven metal strap. Wear it alone for a sleek statement or layer it with bangles for a head-turning effect.

This watch is simply gorgeous. I love rose gold and I like that this isn’t trying too hard to be showy. The watch face itself is also simple with gold accents. I can’t wait to pair this with the bangles coming in the Spring 2019 box (shhhh I couldn’t help but look). This watch is listed as $115. Already another item over the value of the box. With the promo codes out there you are really getting a great deal! This watch will also pair expertly with the bag.

A sleek cat eye amps up any ensemble. Wear with tousled hair for a rock-n-roll look or dial up the glamour with a matte, red lip.

I love Tarte products so I was very excited to get this in the box…..I also only do cat eye eyeliner so it’s like Rachel herself knew what I wanted as far as styling goes. The fine tip makes it super easy to make a flawless cat eye and also makes the application simple in general. I don’t typically use liquid eyeliner but hey, I like that this gives me the option to go outside of my comfort zone a little bit! The price listed is $20.

Let’s go ahead and open that black velvet pouch next!

Ettika Chloe Tassel

I’ll go ahead and tell you I did not take this picture (obviously). This comes from the blog on the website which also shows you how to style the necklace. I wanted to style this for you guys BUT I am a few months postpartum and not feeling like the camera would do this necklace any justice if my lovely face was in this so we will skip that. The booklet describes this as:

Add glamour to every outfit with this delicately layered, 18K gold-plated necklace complete with crystal accents. It looks as stunning with a gown as it does with jeans and a tee.

I know you guys don’t know me, but I can guarantee that this is not going with a gown any time soon. I can definitely see myself wearing this to jazz up my outfit (which includes jeans). There are multiple settings where you can make it shorter or longer so I appreciate that since I do not like things right up on my neck. The necklace is very lovely though, so hopefully I will get a lot of use out of it. Again, I think this pairs well with the watch and bag from this box. The price is listed as $80.

On to the last item:

No looks is complete without radiant skin, so every woman needs a great serum. This version brightens, smooths, and gives you that lit-from-within glow.

I am really excited about this serum since pregnancy has left me feeling a little lackluster. Don’t get me wrong, being pregnant was beautiful, but all those hormones did not give me radiant skin. Even though I had a boy, my skin was hideous. I went ahead and put this on right away because I need all the help I can get so why not start now?! The smell was very plant-based. I don’t know what I was expecting (I don’t own serums) but it reminded me of being in the field and harvesting plants (I studied biology, so that’s not weird). There is a skincare tip listed in the booklet that suggests putting this on after cleansing and before moisturizing to boost the effect, so that sounds really nice. I am excited to see how this will affect my skin long term. Can I also go ahead and point of this is 30mL!!! This will last for a good bit! I looked up reviews and it seems like there is a general consensus that people love this serum. The prices listed for this is $79.

Overall, the value of this box is $444 so it does live up to the promise of over $400 in goods. Yes, I think some of the prices are a little outrageous BUT I could also see myself paying those prices in a store and not really think much of it. I am so in love with all of these products and I cannot wait to use them in my every day life. My verdict is so far I love this box. This is a great way to break into this subscription and I cannot wait to see what the next seasons hold.

If you guys would like to sign up for the Rachel Zoe Box of Style, feel free to use my link for $25 off the first box! This box gives you a discount and also gives me credit:

I also believe if you go to the site itself, you can save $15 off the first box. Either way, this is a gorgeous box full of really high end products and I am excited to share with everyone.

Til next time!

Also, feel free to see why I started this blog in the first place. The First Blog!

Ipsy *JAN 2019*

OK, this is super late and trust me I know that there are so many reviews and spoilers for the Ipsy bag for January 2019. But y’all. I STILL HAVE NOT GOTTEN MINE. I thought this blog would kick off with the review of my bag. I mean it makes sense that I would start my blog with the subscription I first purchased. BUT. IT. IS. NOT. HERE. Each day I walk myself through the snow and ice (I live in Alaska) and every day there is no beautiful glimmering bag lighting up my mailbox. To say I am frustrated is an understatement.

Let me give you an update about my subscriptions though!

Ipsy: I have reached out to customer service for Ipsy who has assured me that my bag will be here soon. Also, since I am annoyed and reached out a couple weeks in a row, they said they have put another bag in the mail in case mine got lost. Great. Now I’m waiting for two bags. So far I am not impressed.

FabFitFun: I won’t lie to you guys. I definitely got the Winter Editor’s Box and it was SUBLIME. I was thinking about adding it to the blog but everyone and their momma has already reviewed this box. I want to at least have something fresh. So, as of today, my FFF box review will be the Spring box. Today I purchased add-ons which include Luxie Brush Set ($29!!!!!!!!), some Spongellé sponges (OH MY GOSH I LOVE THESE), and a couple mystery bundles. I wanted to see what the value is versus the purchase price of $29. I am hoping there are some good items in there and I did not waste my money. I have also seen some spoilers for the spring box and I cannot wait to put my choices in there.

Boxycharm: I am excited to review the February 2019 box! The January box was very impressive, so I cannot wait to see what I will have coming up.

Causebox: This might actually be my favorite box so far. Like I said previously, I was going to kick off everything with Ipsy, but alas, no Ipsy so far. I have literally used every item in the box I got. If you have not read the reviews, you should! Spring 2019 will be my first review for this box and I have to admit I have not seen any indication of what might be in this box so I am very in the dark and anxious to see what might come in.

Popsugar Must Have: This is another one I will get in Spring 2019. I have seen one spoiler in this box that shows a duffle bag. Since I am a stay at home mom I cannot imagine I will get much use out of this, but hey, maybe I will save it for a gift or something. I hope this box will be worth the money because it’s $75 per quarter……have I lost my mind?!?!?

Book of the Month: I got my January box, but again, everything has come so late. I don’t know if it’s just because I live in Alaska or what, but the delay really puts a damper on my reading schedule. But in my box I ordered, Night Tiger by Yangsze Choo and I received a free book as a promo which was Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer. I haven’t read these yet, as I had to make up time and order other books, but I’m not too sure if I will keep this. The February books did not appeal to me so I ended up skipping a month. Which brings me to my next purchase, did you know Amazon has a book club type deal? If not, it is called Amazon First Reads and there are two formats for the books: Kindle and hardcover. The Kindle books are free each month for Prime Members and the hardcover books are about $10. They select like 5 books of different genres and you can choose from those, but unlike BOTM, it does not lock you into a monthly subscription so you aren’t obligated to skip or cancel or anything like that. I ordered Where the Forest Meets the Stars by Glendy Vanderah for February

Box of Style: This actually proves I have lost my damn mind. This box is $99 per quarter………….but it promises over $400 in items. The first box I will receive is the Select Edition. I have seen spoilers but I have to admit there are not many reviews on the box so I am excited to be one of the few on that review front. It looks like a really high end box. I will make sure to review that as soon as it comes in. I ordered it over the weekend and found a promo code to get the cost down to $75.

So, that I think wraps it up! I will review everything I mentioned and hopefully kick this blog off. Since none of my reviews are sponsored and I don’t know too much about high end products or what to expect, my reviews are completely unbiased. Also, I will update if I subscribe to anything else, although I am going to run out of money here soon 🙂

If anyone wants any promo codes or referral codes for boxes, let me know! They usually give discounts but I don’t want to be obnoxious and post them everywhere.

Til next time!
